JMF Audio inaugurates its own recording studios
December 9, 2025.
The year of its 40th anniversary, JMF Audio unveils the creation of its own cutting-edge recording studios. A project of passion built upon a long experience in the fields of acoustics and audio equipment design for world class facilities. (see History)
The studios would allow JMF Audio to expend its expertise, covering every aspect of recorded music and possibly provide unique recordings to JMF Audio music-loving customers, among other challenges.
Located in a quite environment, easily accessible, surrounded with nature and featuring a parc, at the foot of mountains and near lakes, the facility offers the artists unique conditions to create and perform. (see Our Environment)
The studios totaling 150 sqm, designed by JMF Audio over more than 25 years, are based on two independent buildings located inside the same enclosing building. Their dual walls made of concrete, with sand filled intervals, ensure extreme phonic isolation down to very low frequencies. The rooms’ advanced and up to 2m deep sound trapping over the acoustically transparent ceilings prevents from standing waves down to the lowest notes, while preserving the energy of the musical performance.
The historical studio A, an experimentation space for more than 20 years, has retrieved its original architecture and turned into a large recording room with a unique vibe and advanced acoustics to welcome musicians and continue its vocation.
The more recent and daily occupied studio B can now turn into the most precise and faithful control room one sound engineer can dream of, while preserving its initial role that is research and development and products’ sound quality control.
Most of the microphones come from composer and friend Alain Amouyal’s studio, designed by Tom Hidley (see our History section), whose music was orchestrated by Shawn Murphy, played by the London Symphony Orchestra and recorded at Abbey Road Studios of London for the new millennium.
The fact that these microphones were used to record major artists such as American jazz icons Charlie Haden, Ernie Watts, Lawrence Marable adds to their already particular meaning to us. They are part of our growing collection of vintage and precision models, all with their own history.
World premiere: HQS 9001 mono power amplifier in final version G playing music. Orose® silver enclosure. Although the version G was already introduced for the stereo HQS 6002 at Axpona in 2022, three additional years of research, development and dedication have been necessary for completion on the larger HQS 9001.
Additional pair of HQS 9001 new version G, Orose® black enclosures, on static display at one side of the room. In between: Made to JMF Audio's specifications transformer (two units used in each power amplifier) and hand-crafted PGP gold plated driver board under the glass shell.
Close up on one of the HQS 9001 Orose® black new version G on static display, see through top cover, internal view. The pair of amplifiers on static display and the pair used for demonstrations were the two first ever built.
Exclusive inside view of the PRS 1.5 dual mono pre-amplifier featuring the new PLS advanced linear power supply, visible on the left through a purpose made semi transparent top cover.
World premiere: prototype of the PHZ 8.1 (black), a new phono interface acting as a balancing step-up transformer, dual mono design. Here on static display. Another prototype was used for demonstration, raising the cartridge signal level by 10dB before entering the phono preamplifier. Independent load setting on the cartridge side. Matched to the PHS 7.3 phono stage advanced balanced input stage. On its right, the new MBR1 remote control in Orose® silver with rose gold filled lettering and machined steel buttons. On its left, a PHS 7.2 phono preamplifier on display.
On the left side of the room, HQS 6002 stereo power amplifier, PCD 302 US type power line filter, PCD 102 EU type power line filter (black), PC3 carbon power cord with the new JMF Audio carbon IEC connector.
The recording equipment will essentially be based on JMF Audio’s technologies, from cables to microphone preamplifiers, through mains filtering and power supplies…
Productions are possible in multitrack digital up to DXD format using an advanced workstation, as well as in analog through the most regarded tape machines and a custom console (see our History section). The communication between the two rooms being ensured through off-grid networking and fiber optics.
The recording setup has been thought for mobility to enable location recordings, to capture the musical expression in different acoustics, and possibly support the major classical music and acoustic jazz festivals that take place in abbeys, churches and cathedrals around our manufacture. (see Context and Artists).
The JMF Audio recording studios, a development over a heritage, aimed at becoming a new research and development platform to serve the music as well as the music lovers.
A new milestone in JMF Audio’s history.
JMF Audio has designed and hand-built reference power amplifiers since 1985. Their selection by leading Nashville studios, owned by a Grammy Awards winning mastering engineer, in 1989 started the international development, mostly through famous studio designer Tom Hidley.
Our thoughts go to major mentors of ours:
Jean-Marie Fusilier who sadly left us 10 years ago and Tom Hidley who coincidentally passed away the year we open our own studios…
